Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America, East have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in television and while network TV isn’t represented this year, putting another nail in its coffin, some of your favorites from other platforms likely made the cut.
Competing for the top drama trophy is Netflix’s The Crown, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix’s Mindhunter, and HBO’s Succession and Watchmen. On the comedy writing side of things, HBO’s Barry, Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Hulu’s PEN15, Netflix’s Russian Doll and HBO’s Veep are vying for that prize. Best new series nominees are PEN15, Russian Doll, Watchmen, Netflix’s Dead To Me and FX’s What We Do In The Shadows.
Looking at the nominees, it’s very good to be a streaming service, especially Netflix which snags two nominations in the drama category and one for comedy. HBO also proves once again that it’s the premium cable outlet to be reckoned with as they snagged two nominations in drama and one in comedy as well.
Winners of the awards will be announced concurrently in Los Angeles and New York City on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
